Haritha Nagari - Terrace Gardening
An urban homestead
farming venture in Kochi’s corporation area aims at promoting organic vegetable
cultivation so as to produce farm fresh vegetables in terraces to make each household
self sufficient in vegetable production. This also helps to utilise the recycled
household waste efficiently for cultivation of crop through vermi- composting.

Programme details
The registered beneficiaries
will be provided with 25 potted vegetable seedlings of their choice for
Rs. 3500/- within 10Kms from VFPCK HQ. If the beneficiary is willing to bear the transportation expense the unit will be set up at further distances. Vegetable seedlings are available at VFPCK all round the year. VFPCK official will
provide necessary technical guidance during the crop period. Mushroom spawn packets (Oyster and milky mushrooms ) are available at VFPCK HQ. Mushroom trainings are also being conducted at VFPCK HQ periodically

Vermi composting Jar Unit:
Vermi composting Jar Unit can be extensively utilized for decomposing the bio waste which are accumulating in the urban area. This bio waste is converted into Vermi compost within a short period of 45 days with the help of eathworm.
Vermi composting jar unit consists of the following items:
1. Jar
2. Water channel plate
3. Lid with holes
4. Plastic tap
5. Earth worm kit
Procedure for filling:
Fill sand/metal chips upto the level of plastic tap inside the jar. Then place wetted coconut fibres above the sand. Earth worm can be placed above the fibre. Daily available bio waste can be added to it. Water can be sprinkled in 2 to 4 days interval. The decaying waste can be turn up side down in 10 days intervel. The jar must be placed in water channel to protect the earthworm from ants and cover the lid with net to protect from flies.
